this is just kind or a random something something i wanna talk about because i like making noise sounds with my vocal cords that mean something and my second favorite thing is just that but with symbols. So horror huh? we seem to like a bunch even though we also hate it. But what makes something a good spook? well i feel like jumpscares are automatically crossed out because they're cheap and even when done effectively it still only scares someone in a moment of time. It's not some big scary monster with a set of dentures borrowed from an eldritch abomination that eats people because we know once the films is done, he's not real even if were naïve kid that believes its somehow real that fear settles down as we grow. sure if you saw a giant scary monster that eats people you would be shitting out bricks but thats only because of the real guy the running the show the grim reaper. but there are monsters that can be scary because they represent something more than just "death" like cthulu sure, he isn't real but what he represents is very much real, the unfamiliar body of water known as the ocean, it habors things that are bizarre and leaves the mind to ponder what else it has if what weve seen is bizarre and scary looking and what they are capable of. and the sea itself being obviously scary, on land we humans dominate weve been dominating for 10s of thousands of years but in the ocean we are helpless and no one can hear our screams, most of which applies to space which is were most of the creatures originate i believe. The idiot god representing nature in a way. The idea that regardless of our achievements and what weve done and what we want done that nature can wipe out all of us in an instant if it so randomly decided by forces far greater than us, that we are worthless in the end. Because the best horrors are not ones invented in the mind but are ones that are real and matter to us. that in spite of whatever we do to fight them we can never defeat them because THEY WILL WIN. and there's nothing we can do about it besides delay it.
